Accomplishments
My greatest blessing was marrying my amazing wife. Over 31 years later, I’m still so grateful she said yes. We have two incredible daughters, and we’re having a blast cheering on their success.
At Mid-States, I get to work with some of the most incredibly talented people. Together, we build great buildings where people live, work, learn, and play. Every project has its own story, but the most special ones to me are meaningful because of the people we build them for—and with. Getting to work with our customers to help them accomplish their project goals is very rewarding. Knowing they trust us with projects that matter so much to them is something we do not take lightly.
Starting my career at Mid-States on our installation crew, one of the biggest accomplishments is that Jaron and I worked together and didn’t kill each other. But we may have talked a new guy or two into looking in the truck for the slab stretcher.
Extracurricular
My wife and I enjoy leading a small group from our church. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to lead some incredible men’s retreats over the past few years. One of my favorite verses is Joshua 1:9. Still living in 2016—the greatest game ever played was on a Wednesday in Cleveland.
Off the Clock
My favorite place in the world is sitting on the back deck with my wife, a good whiskey, and some music in the background. Greatest movie? Braveheart. Greatest movie franchise? Rocky. (This is a fact and not open for debate.) One of the best ways to spend an early morning is on a paddle board on Lake Geneva when the water is like glass. We usually take our dog, which usually ends with us falling off the boards. A coffee and a good book is a close second. We also have a wood burning sauna (pronounced SOW-na) and enjoy it a few times a week.

Harrison Ford went to my grandfather’s house in Upper Michigan for an authentic Finnish sauna. That’s right, Han Solo/Indiana Jones.
MATTHEW KEITH

Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment is marrying my beautiful wife, Amanda. Together we have three wonderful children all with vastly different interests. Our oldest son (8) believes he is destined to play for the Brewers, our daughter (6) believes she is a Disney princess, and our youngest son (2) you can find on any John Deere tractor.
Extracurricular
I spend my spring and summer coaching my son’s baseball teams, along with leading our small town’s baseball organization. Also, a devoted sports fan. I love the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Brewers.

Off the clock, I love supporting my children in their interests. As a family, we love to spend time outdoors whether it be on a lake, in the woods, or on the side-by-side.

Accomplishments
Marrying my wife 33 years ago and raising our two amazing children are among the greatest accomplishments of my life. Our daughter, Sara, is 27 and works as a special education teacher in Scottsdale, Arizona, while also pursuing her master’s degree. Our son, Tyler, is 24 and is building a career in business analytics while living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. My wife and I are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and excited to see the positive impact they will continue to make in the future.
Professionally, I have had the privilege of working for Mid-States Concrete Industries for 29 years alongside many outstanding people. During that time, I have contributed to numerous remarkable projects and built lasting relationships with coworkers and customers. I am grateful for the experiences I’ve had and look forward to many more successful years ahead.
Off the Clock
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and making the most of every opportunity to create lasting memories. I am a huge fan of Wisconsin Badger football and have been fortunate to hold season tickets for many years. Whether it’s game day in Madison or cheering from home, I proudly support the Badgers every season.
I also enjoy country music and relaxing with a good comedy movie. My all-time favorite movie is Step Brothers, which never fails to make me laugh. When it comes to professional football, I am a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys—better known to many as “America’s Team.”
Above all, I value the time I spend with the people who matter most and appreciate the balance that family, friends, sports, and entertainment bring to my life.
Secret Life
I have been fortunate to experience a few memorable moments over the years. One of my favorites was meeting Hulk Hogan when I was 10-years-old—an experience I still remember today. As a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, another highlight was taking a private tour of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the home of the Cowboys. Walking through one of the most iconic venues in professional sports was an unforgettable experience and a dream come true for a dedicated Cowboys fan.

There are quite a few projects that I am proud of being a part of at Mid-States: Humbucker, Beloit Schools, and Maine West are just a few. After being in the field for 12 years, I moved into the office and I have found being part of the Sales Team a new and exciting challenge.

My newest hobby is spending time with my wife Jessica, my son Cole and my daughter Lorelei. I enjoy shooting competitive archery when I have the time. I also enjoy golf, woodworking, fishing in the Florida Keys, hunting out west, and coaching Cole’s baseball, football, and basketball teams.

I’ve jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, can’t stand ketchup or gum, and am one of the biggest Metallica fans you will ever meet.
MARK SALLMANN

Accomplishments
It was an interest in architecture that led to my schooling in engineering followed by a career in construction-related sales. During my time at Mid-States, covering the Chicago market, I have enjoyed working on a variety of projects and each project presents its own set of challenges. Some of the projects I am most excited about involve solutions that address some of these challenges. These would include schools with high-end architectural finishes to sports complexes utilizing the full array of our product portfolio.

I enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, and golfing. Looking to visit as many of the national parks as I can. I have been to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park over a dozen times.

CHARLES HARKER III

Accomplishments
I’ve been fortunate to be a member of a lot of great teams during my career thus far across the construction industry and around the country. From Boston to Oregon, to Denver and Chicago, I’ve enjoyed learning about different places and cities through the lens of the built environment. Every building and project is truly different and is a unique challenge, and I enjoy diving into those challenges and working together as a team to deliver projects safely, on time, and on budget.

I am currently pursuing my MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in the evening MBA program. I am also a member of the Chicago Run Junior Board and volunteer as a lector at St. Michael Catholic Church in Old Town in Chicago.
Off the Clock
I played college lacrosse at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and am an avid runner. I have run the Boston Marathon and Chicago Marathon three times each, as well as the Berlin Marathon and New York Marathon. My goal is to run all 7 World Major Marathons (London, Tokyo, and Sydney still to go!) I also love to ski, play golf, hike, and go fishing on occasion—so pretty much anything active outside!

Growing up I wanted to be a sports broadcaster and even did a project about it in high school where I had the chance to sit in a broadcast booth for a live NHL game. And, although I wouldn’t consider myself a “Deadhead,” my favorite band is the Grateful Dead.

I have been at Mid-States for 25 years and been a part of numerous successful projects. I played college baseball for 2 years and won 2 NJCAA National Championships. I pitched the national championship game my freshman year and was MATC 1996 Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
Extracurricular
I love beer which is why my other career is at Rock County Brewing Company in Janesville as a beer server. I golf in a golf league at Glen Erin. We have seven guys from Mid-States in our league.

I enjoy golfing and playing baseball. I also love beer, hence why I work at a brewery. I love to cook and use my two smokers.
Secret Life
I am lucky to be on Earth as my mom is from Wisconsin and my dad is from England. She was on her senior trip to Florida and he was in the British Royal Navy and was docked in Florida. That is where they met. That chance encounter is why I am so exceptional.

Raising two amazing children with my wonderful wife of 26 years. We met while at Iowa State, and both graduated from that fine institution of learning. Our daughter, Ally, also graduated from Iowa State and is now getting a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins. Our son, Ben, will be graduating from Michigan Tech later this year. I’ve been at Mid-States for 17 years, with the first 14 with the engineering department and the last three in the preconstruction department.
Off the Clock
My wife and I love to travel, so we rarely pass up the opportunity to take a trip. As a family, we tried to hike the John Muir Trail, a 220 mile long trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, but realized quickly that we had bitten off more than we could chew. We only completed around 50 miles, but it’s a trip we will remember forever. When not on vacation I like to run ultramarathons, and I have completed thirteen 100 mile races.

I am blessed to be married to my wife of 13 years and enjoy raising our young family. I completed my Eagle Scout as a freshman in high school and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from UW–Stout. I truly enjoy my life with my family and all that comes with everyday events.

I enjoy hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, keeping up with my kids’ events, and working on home projects. I’m also a fan of good food and drink. Huge fan of the only true sport (and number one in the world): soccer. Go Man U!

I have been a structural engineer for 23 years. I have always had a passion for construction and enjoy seeing projects come to life. I have been with Mid-States for over three years and in this time, I have had the opportunity to work with various architects and engineers in the early stages of design to ensure the most economical precast layout. My previous EOR experience has been beneficial in aiding with early on schematic designs. I strive to provide the most economical precast layout for our customers.
Extracurricular
With four kids, I find most of my extracurricular time is spent at sporting events. Whether it is baseball, softball, football, or basketball games, it seems we are always cheering for one of them. I love to watch them play.

I love being a mom and enjoy spending time with my family. I love to travel, read, and relax in the backyard with the kids while sitting around the firepit.

I think my biggest accomplishments to date would be my three amazing kids and my wonderful husband, Brian. I am so lucky to have such an amazing man by my side, who is without a doubt my biggest supporter and ally. We are so beyond proud of the children we get to raise. We have two daughters and one son. Our oldest daughter will shock the world with her art and her incredible personality. Our middle daughter will definitely grow up to be a leader and accomplish amazing feats as long as she uses her stubbornness for good. And our son is most definitely our daredevil. If there is anything around him he can climb or jump off, he will.

I am big into Supercross and Motocross. I have gone to races in Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, and Chicago. I have met many riders, including Justin Barcia, Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Ken Roczen, Chase Sexton, Cooper Webb, and many more. We have an autograph wall in our house. We also compete in a motocross/supercross fantasy league, in which I am the four-time reigning champ. Saturdays are for Supercross, and Sundays we are in a trap shooting league at the SMSF club.

Growing up, my family was big into BMX racing, and they would race at Searls BMX Track in Rockford. My brother grew up racing with Garret Rapp, who would later go on to be the vocalist/keyboardist for The Color Morale (metalcore band).

I’ve made the Dean’s List at the University of Kentucky five times during college. I also get to help with social media strategy and content creation at the university—combining my passion for communication and creativity. Before college, I won JVA Nationals in club volleyball and served as team captain for all four years of high school.

I serve as a social media student ambassador for UK, helping represent student life and promote university events across various platforms.
