The Couture: Milwaukee, WI
The Couture: Mixed-Use Honorable Mention
Designed as a key thoroughfare connecting Lake Michigan with the cultural amenities of downtown Milwaukee, The Couture is Wisconsin's largest residential building. Standing 44 stories tall, the 750,000-square-foot tower boasts spectacular views in all directions, along with 322 apartments, more than 900 parking spots, a public rooftop park, and prime restaurant and retail spaces. The Couture's lower podium offers a multimodal transportation concourse that loops through the building site, with a second-floor pedestrian concourse providing access to the retail spaces. After more than a dozen years of planning, the transformational project was brought to life thanks to precast concrete and the efforts of International Concrete Products and architect RINKA.
Westhaven Park Station: Chicago, IL
Westhaven Park Station: Multi-Family Honorable Mention
Part of a multiphase, transformational effort on Chicago, Ill.'s West Side, Westhaven Park Station delivers 96 affordable apartments to the community inside an attractive, 12-story complex. The redevelopment project replaces a series of deteriorating and poorly maintained high-rises that had long symbolized concentrated poverty and disinvestment. The new, thoughtfully designed apartment structure offers modern, high-quality housing, bringing together residents of varying income levels and fostering a more inclusive, sustainable neighborhood. The development, which is adjacent to a new public train station, was also designed with transit in mind, providing residents with quick access to public transportation and boosting community connectivity. Precast concrete was essential in bringing this transformational effort to fruition, with the precast concrete producers partnering with LBBA Architects on a total-precast concrete design.
