Resolve to Use Precast in 2023

What are you looking forward to in 2023? We’re less than two weeks into the new year, which means there are still plenty of opportunities for us to partner with you on your 2023 projects.

What projects are you working on this year? How can we be of assistance to help ensure your projects are successful?

Precast concrete and precast, prestressed concrete excel in strength, sustainability, functionality, and durability. It integrates easily with other systems and provides the versatility, efficiency, and resiliency needed to meet the multi-hazard requirements and long-term demands of high-performance structures.

Precast concrete is concrete that is cast into a specific shape in a controlled environment in a precast concrete plant. Prestressed concrete is concrete with primary reinforcement consisting of steel strand put into tension, resulting in compression of the concrete. This increases load-carrying capacity, allows for greater spans, and reduces cracks. Components are then transported to the job site for erection.

Precast concrete is versatile, efficient, and resilient.

In terms of versatility, it offers aesthetic versatility, structural versatility, and use versatility. Precast can be manufactured in virtually any color, form, and texture; offers façade integration; and boasts historic compatibility. As far as structural benefits, precast offers scalable performance, economical sections, and long open spans. In terms of use, precast is recyclable and boasts both deconstructive reuse and adaptive reuse.

In terms of efficiency, precast offers site efficiency, energy and operation efficiency, and risk reduction. By using precast concrete, your jobsite receives minimal site disturbance, negligible waste, and accelerated construction. In terms of energy and operational efficiency, precast offers scalable performance, is thermally efficient, and experiences low life-cycle costs. Precast also reduces risk as design assist is offered; it reduces trades; and could result in enhanced profitability.

Regarding resiliency, precast offers structure durability, multi-hazard protection, and life safety and health benefits. In terms of structure durability, precast offers a long service life, barrier wall system, and functional resilience. Multi-hazard protection includes storm resistance, earthquake resistance, and blast resistance. Life safety and health benefits include indoor environmental quality, passive fire resistance, and precast meets FEMA 361.

Since 1946, we have partnered with our customers to innovate, design, and build meaningful buildings in which to live, work, learn, and play. We know you could work with any number of precasters and are always grateful when you choose to partner with us.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

As the year winds down and we find ourselves wrapped up in the holiday spirit and looking forward to ringing in the new year, it’s a race to finish everything on our lists. Regardless of which holiday you are celebrating this season, remember to slow down and enjoy it.

The more trips I have around the sun, the faster time seems to fly. And I want to do it all! With an almost five-year-old (as he’ll be sure to tell you) at home, decorating the tree, baking the cookies, watching the movies, and drinking the hot chocolate is even sweeter this year. He is at that perfect age where, although he has experienced Christmas before, he is finally old enough to “get” it. He has loved all the activities, the magic of Santa, and picking out and making gifts for all his favorite people.

But most of all, he and I have loved spending time with all the people we love. Because that’s truly what it’s all about.

With Gratitude During the Season of Giving

Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to reflect on all the things we have to be thankful for.

When it comes to the list of things I have to be thankful for, my sweetest little boy is my greatest blessing. Just shy of five-years-old, he makes my heart full every single day. He is truly the best thing I have ever done and is a constant reminder of all the good things in life.

I am grateful for the health and happiness of my family - my 92-year-old grandpa who renovated his bathroom all on his own this year; my mother and father, who offered endless support and help in my first year as a homeowner, and who are the best Boda and Papa a little boy could ask for; my three brothers, their better halves, my three nephews, and one niece, and although we don’t see each other nearly enough, we never stop laughing when we do see each other; and an aunt who is a second mother and friend to me.

No list of things I’m grateful for would be complete without a shoutout to my SQUAD - the best girlfriends a girl could ask for, who, with their significant others and kids, extend what it means to be family. Although we all have our own crazy lives and crazy calendars, we still manage to pencil each other in occasionally and once we all get together, it’s like no time has passed. Get yourself friends like these.

With 6+ years at Mid-States under my belt, I’m also endlessly grateful to work for a company that encourages the development and success of its team members. I’m lucky enough to get to do some really cool things and enjoy the people on our team. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t express my gratitude for the customers that trust Mid-States to serve as partners on their projects. To be part of amazing projects that make such a difference in the community, is a blessing we don’t take lightly.

A BIG THANK YOU to all of our customers - past, present, and future. We can’t wait to see what is up next!
